The challenges facing women, children and young people cannot be addressed through short-term interventions alone. They require sustained investment, meaningful participation and partnerships that recognise the leadership, knowledge and resilience already present within communities.
We call on government institutions, humanitarian and development partners, donors, civil society organisations, private sector actors, community leaders and individuals to invest in solutions that place women, children and young people at the centre of decision-making.
This means funding women-led and community-based organisations directly and flexibly; strengthening child protection systems; expanding opportunities for women’s economic empowerment and youth skills development; creating safe spaces for children and young people to participate; and ensuring that communities have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives.
How You Can Engage
There are practical ways for everyone to contribute:
- Fund local solutions: Provide flexible and predictable funding to women-led, youth-led and community-based organisations.
- Partner with WCAYI: Collaborate with us on women’s empowerment, child protection, youth development, livelihoods, gender equality and social inclusion.
- Create opportunities: Support skills development, entrepreneurship, mentorship, leadership and employment opportunities for women and young people.
- Strengthen child protection: Support positive parenting, prevention of violence against children, prevention of child labour and community-based protection mechanisms.
- Include communities in decision-making: Ensure women, children, young people and marginalised groups can meaningfully participate in programme design and monitoring.
- Share knowledge and expertise: Offer technical assistance, training, mentorship and organisational development support.
Amplify community voices: Use your networks and platforms to highlight community priorities, experiences and locally developed solutions.
Volunteer or contribute: Share your time, skills, resources or professional networks.
Build accountable partnerships: Ensure community feedback influences decisions and that communities are informed about how their recommendations have been addressed.
