On 26th March 2026, the Women, Children and Youth Initiative (WCAYI) joined Obongi District leadership and partner organizations to commemorate World Water Day under the theme “Water and Gender.” The event brought together community members, local leaders, women’s groups, and youth to reflect on the critical link between access to safe water and gender equality.

The commemoration highlighted how women and girls are disproportionately affected by limited access to clean water, often bearing the burden of long-distance water collection, which exposes them to risks and limits their opportunities for education and economic participation. Discussions emphasized the importance of inclusive water governance, ensuring that women actively participate in decision-making processes related to water resource management.
WCAYI engaged communities through awareness sessions, emphasizing the role of safe water in promoting health, dignity, and protection, particularly for women and girls. The team also highlighted how access to water contributes to the prevention of gender-based violence and supports community resilience.

The event served as a platform to strengthen partnerships and reinforce collective commitment toward improving water access and promoting gender equality. WCAYI remains dedicated to advocating for inclusive, community-led solutions that empower women and ensure sustainable access to safe water for all.
